It's Time for Yebo Gogga!
Ana, Dylan & Courtney are inspiring the next generation of scientists with their research! If you're in Joburg, this week 9-4pm, Wednesday–Saturday, come down to Wits to experience some biological deceptions.

Congratulations Courtney on your accepted poster at the II Joint Congress on Evolution in Montpieller France, AND for the travel award from the SSE! Well done!
Yay, Kelsey is also going to France to present her recent work on Helichrysum odoratissimum! Kelsey was recently awarded the Convocation Distinguished Teacher's Award in the Faculty of Science! The School of Animal, Plant, & Environmental Sciences was well represented at the annual SAAB conference in Pretoria!

Here's Ana prepping her flowers for her overnight work on baobab reproductive traits in Vhembe. Ana spent five weeks in the trees at night - what a way to end 2017! Courtney spent most of her spring/summer traveling between Wits and Witsieshoek at Sentinel Peak to monitor her Rhodohypoxis baurii var. confecta populations. Here she is downloading hourly temperature data for her Epic Hill Site. She also saw snow for the first time! Dylan, his co-supervisor (Sally Archibald, pictured in the background) and I took a day trip to his site in Karkloof to revisit and collect a few more plants. Was a great day at the office! Interested in joining the lab?
If you're interested in speciation, like to be outdoors, and are keen to gain molecular lab skills, the lab is just the place for you! We spend a few weeks outdoors running field experiments in the beautiful Drakensberg, with a few short jaunts into Lesotho, and spend some time honing your pipetting & bioinformatics skills with molecular work. Contact me with a short introduction and why you are interested in coming to work with me. |
